"Good luck attend the future Rock keepers."

- James Corgan, October 21, 1883

Our Mission

In 2008, Gull Rock Lighthouse was acquired by Gull Rock Lightkeepers. Through grassroots fundraising and Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program grants, the organization has completed several restoration projects.

The light itself is still maintained as an active aid to navigation by the United States Coast Guard.

Restorative Projects

Restoration to date includes the lighthouse’s red stained cedar shingle roof and the pressed metal roof on the masonry privy, which was also tuckpointed along with the lighthouse chimney.

Inside, five dumpsters of debris were removed, floor structures have been rebuilt, and subfloors have been installed.

Next, exterior masonry, windows, doors, and shutters will be restored before interior restoration can begin.

Once complete, the organization hopes to have volunteer lightkeepers in residence through an arts and sciences fellowship program.
